Abstract Submission for Posters and Oral presentations
The Greenland Science Week 2019 Conference Organizing Committee invites you to submit an abstract on original work for presentation as a poster and an oral presentation. The Poster session and oral presentations will be held during the “Research for You”-day the 5th of December 2019 and will be open to the public as well as other conference participants. The “Research for You”-day is an integral part of Greenland Science Week and an expansion of the “Polar Research Day” conference, focusing on public outreach.
Posters and oral presentations will offer opportunities to convey your research to the broad public.
Guidelines for Submission
Your abstract should include how your research and presentation relates to this year’s theme: “Connecting Science and communities”. Greenland Science Week is a multidisciplinary science conference, so you are welcome to present within any research field as long as it relates to this year’s theme and is research conducted in or about Greenland and/or the Arctic.
- Poster presentation should be submitted via email only to mamo@sermersooq.gl
- Deadline for submission is Monday the 30th of September 2019.
- All posters presentations must be submitted and presented in English, however it is strongly encouraged to have the text part of your material translated to Greenlandic and Danish for the poster session on the 5th of December.
- All posters presentations must be submitted in PDF-format.
- All posters presentation will be reviewed by the Organizing Committee and notification of acceptance will be sent by email.
- Modification of posters presentations will not be possible later than Monday the 30th of September 2019.
- The abstract body must be structured with the following:
- Background
- Aim
- Research Design
- Results
- Conclusions
- Word count no more than 350.
- The maximum acceptable size for a poster is A0 (84x119 cm). Participants are asked to bring their printed poster and pins, tape or other adhesive with them as no poster printers will be available at the conference.
Poster Format
Posters must convey information to conference participants with diverse backgrounds. As such, they should concisely describe the main ideas in a broadly accessible language. We strongly encourage to focus on one research focus presented with no jargon, minimal text, and graphics that communicate and reinforce the main message.
- Posters must fit within an A0-format (84x119 cm)
- Remember pins, tape or other adhesive.
- The accepted posters will be gathered in a leaflet as part of the conference take away.
Award for best poster
The Award for best poster will be awarded to the poster that best conveys the research to the public and therefore presents the best representation of communication directed to the public. To be eligible to for this prize you must be presenting your poster at the poster session on the 5th of December. The winners will be announced at the Banquet the 4th of December 2019.

The evaluation criteria for the award for best poster is divided into two categories:

1. Technical presentation
Overall visual appeal (layout of text and figures), readability (font size, quality of printing, etc.), balance between text and figures/pictures, clear indication of presenter and her/his affiliation.
2. Ability to convey research to the public
The accessibility for the broad public of the information on the poster, the public’s ability to understand the material, choice of visual attraction features, educational features
Review Process
Submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Organizing Committee and evaluated in terms of their appropriateness and their overall quality. Abstracts will be assessed on their acceptability and eligibility as oral or poster presentations in a constructive and educational way.
Poster Abstract Selection Criteria
Poster abstracts will be selected based on fit within the conference theme, creativity in conveying the research and the relevance to participants from different disciplines and perspectives.
Oral presentation
The organizing committee will select some abstracts for a short 10 minute oral presentation during the “Research for You”-day.
When submitting an abstract, please indicate if you are prepared to give an oral presentation based on the abstract.
The oral presentation should last about 10 minutes and can be presented in Greenlandic, English or Danish. Please make sure to indicate which language you prefer to present in, should you be selected for an oral presentation. If you are capable of presenting in more than one language, please rank you preferences in terms of language (e.g. 1: English, 2: Greenlandic, 3: Danish)
